I don't want to damage game CDs so I use Alcohol 120% to copy them onto my hd and run them of a virtual drive - or so I used to do on XP. As an added bonus they run much faster if they don't have to load of CD drive.
When I got my new computer I downloaded the latest Alcohol 120 - version 2.0.0 - it copies the CDs o.k. But it doesn't create a virtual drive. Google search reveals that this is (possibly) a common problem with Windows 7 64 bit (my built 7600) and sptd.sys - how can I fix this (I prefer not to fiddle with regedit this early into having a new computer)? I seem to recall that there was a recent patch related to Alcohol 120 - I wrote the KB number down - and then somebody cleaned the desk - gone is the paper. So I cannot look up if it would help me in my case.
Any other suggestions? Hello fighting7. Assuming you've got the latest version, I'd suspect an incompatibility between that any another program. Have you got anything like Magic ISO or Power ISO or Daemon Tools on the system as well? In short: NONE of them (or anything similar). As a matter of fact: at this stage I have less than 10 programs in total installed (on top of all the stuff which comes with the Toshiba notebook - and some of that has been uninstalled already, like the Norton Internet Security Trial).
I had read somewhere that Zonealarm Firewall might cause a conflict, so I disconnected from the internet and closed down Zonealarm, un- and re-installed Alcohol, re-run the disk copying process - and nothing changed. As Antivirus I'm running the trusted Avast, also latest version. This has never caused any conflicts in the past. Question: why don't I get any cursor at this forum? Makes it really hard to position and correct typos in my text - always a hit and miss. I'd have a look in the Device Manager, and check to see if the driver is installed but failing to start for some reason. At least that way we'll know if it did actually install the driver, as opposed to doing nothing.
Might be worth disabling Avast and see what happens, incidently I'd suggest binning ZoneAlarm completely, I very often come across issues with it and something else. The built in firewall does the job just as well, well better IMO. I've always had a cursor with IE8 here. Paul Smith - MVP for Windows Desktop Experience. I've crawled off NNTP - for now. On the internet at and. Please post back letting us know what works and what doesn't.:-) Paul Smith http://www.dasmirnov.net/blog/. Somehow this problem has resolved itself! After yesterday's Windows update and reboot the drive suddenly appeared and is functioning. But since I didn't do anything I cannot pass on a resolution - sorry! During the un-install and re-install of Alcohol I had to restart several times as well, but that didn't solve it initially, so the reboot cannot have been the only resolving issue. At a loss (as with several other Win7 issues).
Now I hope that one day soon I actually get to use my new computer instead of trying to fix Windows issues:-D. Akta kebankrapan 1967 dan kaedah kebankrapan pdf.

Well, maybe it's clear why I can't install Daemon Tools, it isn't working on Vista, is it? But Alcohol 120% is working on Vista, so I thought it's also working on Windows 7 Beta, but both programs make the same problems at the installation. First I start the setup and accept the licenseagreement, then something pops up, I made a pic: URL=URL=Then after some seconds this comes: URL=URL=Okay, (sry it's german ^^) it told me to restart the PC, so the Installation can be contunied after restart, but after I made that, the setup begins again, so it's a dam vicious circle. (sry for my bad english xD) EDIT: No pics allowed?
Yes, I understand. I'm already using another, but will the final version of the Windows seven DAEMON Tools will not work? It's a good program! That may be so, but there are alternatives, as mentioned by Aski. As I understand it, the developers of Daemon Tools have stated that they won't develop an update for a beta OS - I imagine they will fix things once Windows 7 ships but I guess you should ask them, rather than Microsoft, as it's a third party application issue and not really a Windows 7 problem.
Mark Wilson (MVP Virtual Machine) - http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/. Hi, I was also under the impression that daemon tools does not work with 7 RC and had exactly the same problems as the op when trying to install the version I had previously on vista. After a while, I stumbled on some forum thread that latest Daemon-Tools Lite (v4.30.4 with SPTD 1.58) should work and after trying, it does install and seem to be working normally (7 reminds on start that the program has known compatibility issues, but you can disable that) ps. Remember to install and start as admin the first time.
I was checking a while ago, and forgot to post this, but i sawe a post on some forum by a developer of daemon (and im hoping its the same problem as alcohol) that said that it was a problem with daemon, and not windows that caused it not to work (i also did some stuff, and a box came up that it wasnt the right kernel or something like that) and that they were working on a new version of the program, and so i assumed the same problem for alcohol, shut my mouth and made do with vitual clone drive (until of course the new daemon version works right).
